Transmission 1/20 with continuous shaft - kit (TT)

The gearbox is available as a kit or fully assembled.
To press uninsulated wheels onto the axle, you must remove the axle from the hub or risk destroying the hub.

The design of the gearbox is very simple and allows relatively easy but very precise assembly and disassembly without the use of any jigs or tools. Everything can be done by hand, except perhaps the assembly or pressing of the wheels. The gearbox body is precision CNC machined from delrin. The photos show the prototype in white, but in mass production this part will be black. The holes for the bearings are larger than the components to be inserted (worm and helical wheel) so the assembly is done through these holes. The bearings are precisely made of brass with a slight overlap and so they can be easily pressed into the gearbox body. The bore of the bearings is 1,5H7 and so in combination with hardened and polished axles the fit is very easy and precise. The worm is CNC milled from brass and so its pitch is accurate to within a thousandth of the theoretical calculation. The gear helical gear is rolled from delrin with the highest precision as is usual with our gears. The wheel and worm are delivered already precisely pressed on the axles.

A special feature of this gearbox is the made wheel shaft which allows to use bearings to collect current from uninsulated wheels and thus simplify the design of the running gear. However, it is also possible to attach the usual pick-up plies or wires to the bearings and collect the current from the surrounding area using them.

The gearbox body is 5×6mm in plan and the bearings protrude to a width of 10.2mm. The gearbox can of course be modified by narrowing the bearings and changing the gear wheel (narrowing the hubs) and can be used in N size models, however, a smaller gearbox is planned for this scale.

Also a special feature are the suspension lugs, which allow to construct a running gear with sprung axles using a string, as it is done recently with high quality running gears built from etchings.
